Laterpress has simple, built-in features to help authors capture the email addresses of their readers, to assist in building your newsletter.

When a reader gets to the end of your free preview, they will see a prompt asking if they want to “get emails when the author publishes stories and has news.” Readers who select YES (the default option) will receive any scheduled emails you set up when publishing content, and can be included in your newsletter.

How to retrieve reader data

When logged in to your author account, go to the “Reports” screen. On the top right corner of the screen, click “Download Details” to download the CSV of your reader data.

Import the data into your spreadsheet program of choice. I use Google Sheets.

Importing data into Google Sheets:

  1. Create a new spreadsheet
  2. Under “File” select “Import.”
  3. Next, click “Upload” (the option furthest right).

On this spreadsheet, you’ll see the email address of each of your readers, what they’re buying, how much they have read, and more. Under the “Email Consent” column, TRUE means they have agreed to receive emails from you, and are OK to add to your author newsletter.

How to tell if you're opted into or out of an author's emails

While logged in and reading an author's book, bring up the menu, and click on "My Account."

On the left side of this screen is an email icon with the words "Subscribe to author's emails" next to a slider. If the slider is to the right / has blue coloration, you are opted in to receive emails. You can click the slider to change your email preference.
