How to Create SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL Reminders

How to give your readers a notice their subscription is about to renew before they're charged.

If you’re using either Author or Collection subscriptions to allow your readers to purchase annual access to your work, we’d recommend setting up subscription renewal reminders, to give your readers notice when their subscription is about to renew. Nobody likes an unexpected charge on their card for a subscription they’d forgotten about!

As payments are processed through Stripe, the creation of renewal reminders for upcoming payments are also handled through Stripe, not Laterpress.

To set up a renewal reminder, first go to Stripe’s site and log into your account.

Next, click the gear icon on the top right side of the screen to go into settings.

The settings icon is circled here.

Next, in the Billing section, click “Subscriptions and emails.”

In the “Prevent failed payments” section, make sure the slider for “Send emails about upcoming renewals” is clocked so that it points to the right and has a colored background, as shown in the image below.

The dropdown menu beside “Upcoming renewal events” allows you to decide whether you want to send a notice 3, 7, 15, 30, or 45 days before the subscription will renew.

When you’re done, click the “Save” button to save these settings.

That’s all there is to it! The process takes only a minute or two, and could save you from an email from an upset customer who wasn’t aware they were about to be charged for a subscription renewal.
