Monthly and Annual Subscriptions

Authors can establish subscriptions that renew monthly or annually, generating recurring income from their work. This guide explains subscription types and setup procedures.

Subscription Types

Author Subscriptions grant readers access to all published content by an author, except material behind separate collection subscriptions.

Collection Subscriptions provide access only to a specific collection’s content. Authors might use collections for pen names, individual series, short story compilations, or genre groupings. Content locked behind collection subscriptions remains unavailable to author subscription holders unless they purchase separately.

The platform recommends selecting either an author subscription or collection subscriptions — not both simultaneously. Offering monthly and annual pricing together is acceptable for either subscription type.

Setting Up Author Subscriptions

  1. Log into your Laterpress account and access Settings.
  2. Connect a Stripe account if needed by clicking “Enable Stripe account.”
  3. Click Edit on the DEFAULT box (marked in green).
  4. Enable subscription types using sliders and set prices.
  5. Click SAVE to confirm.

Authors may offer monthly and annual options simultaneously. Disabling subscriptions by turning sliders gray prevents new purchases but allows existing subscribers to retain access through their current term.

Setting Up Collection Subscriptions

  1. Click the blue Edit button on your chosen collection.
  2. Select Details.
  3. Choose “Collection-only subscription” to restrict access.
  4. Use sliders to enable annual and/or monthly options.
  5. Set prices and click Save.

Managing Subscriptions

From the Settings page, manage all active subscriptions. Green text indicates author subscriptions; blue text shows collection subscriptions. Edit buttons allow price adjustments for new subscribers only — existing subscribers maintain their original rates.

Important Considerations

  • Disabling subscriptions cancels renewals; existing subscribers keep access until their term ends, but manual reactivation is required later.
  • Price changes affect only new subscribers; current subscribers renew at their original rate.
