Frequently Asked Questions

Laterpress FAQ

What is Laterpress?

Laterpress is a platform that allows authors to quickly and easily publish books online and sell them directly to fans, all with no commission on direct sales. The platform takes 0% commission on direct payments, unlike traditional retailers that take 30-70%.

What kinds of books can be published on Laterpress?

The platform welcomes all genres — fiction and nonfiction. However, our reading platform does not currently support images, so children’s books, manga, comics, art books, and non-fiction titles that need to show imagery aren’t supported.

What formats do you support?

Books are web-native and readable on any device with a browser. Authors can offer EPUB downloads, but PDFs aren’t supported. Audio support is planned for future release.

Can I use Laterpress in my country?

The platform is accessible worldwide, but monetization depends on Stripe payment processing. Residents of 47 specific countries can monetize their writing.

What does Laterpress cost?

Publishing is free. Our third party payment processor, Stripe, charges a small additional fee (roughly 2.9% - 3.4% + 30 cents), and you keep the rest. Optional community features charge up to 15% additional fees.

How do readers find books?

Authors drive traffic primarily through their own sites and social media. Readers can also discover titles through the bookshelf and recommendations feature.

Do you support monthly subscriptions?

Yes — authors can offer both monthly and annual subscriptions. See Monthly and Annual Subscriptions for details.

Can I publish under multiple pen names?

Authors can create separate accounts per pseudonym or use one account with collections to organize different pen names.

I found a bug. How do I let someone know?

Bugs can be reported through our official bug report form. Please be as detailed as possible about the nature of the issue.

What is the best way to stay up to date about Laterpress news and development?

Join our Discord to chat with Laterpress staff and fellow users. We also send out a weekly newsletter and are active on social media.

What happens if I leave Laterpress?

You can take everything with you — your books, subscriptions, and mailing list — with no strings attached. With Laterpress’s free custom domain functionality, authors can even leave Laterpress while keeping their website URL.
