Notes

Using Notes

Authors can create notes while working on a book. Use the notes feature to leave yourself reminders of plot threads, character or worldbuilding details, item descriptions, and more. Notes are for your private reference and are not readable by AI when using story tools. However, notes can be added to a book’s Wiki to provide context at any time.

Accessing Notes

Each story in the Story tab has two buttons: Edit draft and Manage notes. Click Manage notes to open the editor where you can create, modify, or delete notes for a book.

Alternatively, when in the text editor, click the Notes button at the top of the screen. It’s located between Wiki and Assistant.

Adding Notes

To the left of the search bar are two icons: a microphone and a pencil over paper.

Voice Dictation

The microphone icon activates voice mode. Confirm your audio input when prompted, then dictate your note. When finished, click the blue arrow to upload the audio. The recording is transcribed and converted into a text note, which you can then save. Audio recordings are deleted after transcription.

Voice transcription requires Laterpress AI credits. See AI Plans & Pricing for details.

Manual Entry

The pencil and paper icon opens manual note entry. Give the note a title if you like, then type your note (up to 10,000 characters) and click Save. If you don’t provide a title, the opening lines of text will be used as the title in the notes list to help you find it again.

Sorting Notes

To the right of the search box is a dropdown menu with sorting options:

  • Newest to Oldest (default)
  • Oldest to Newest
  • Title A–Z
  • Title Z–A
  • Description A–Z
  • Description Z–A

If a note doesn’t have a title, the note’s text (description) is used for alphabetical sorting.

Adding Notes to the Wiki

To turn notes into character or lore cards, they need to be added to the Wiki. This lets the AI use that context when generating content with story tools or the Author Assistant.

  1. Click the checkbox next to each note you want to add
  2. Click the blue Add to Wiki button that replaces the search bar
  3. Laterpress AI analyzes the selected notes and generates the appropriate lore or character cards
  4. Review each generated card and make any edits
  5. Click Save for each card

This process does not delete the original notes — they remain available for reference. AI credits are required for the analysis step.

For more on the Wiki system, see Understanding the Wiki Tab and Add to Wiki.

Deleting Notes

  1. Click the checkbox next to each note you want to delete
  2. Click the trash can icon that appears to the right of the Add to Wiki button
  3. Click Confirm to complete the deletion
